BBC International Radio Playwriting Competition 2012

BBC has announced this year’s international writing competition

The International Radio Playwriting Competition run by the BBC World Service and the British Council, in partnership with Commonwealth Writers, is now in its 23rd year. BBC is seeking for writers from around the world to send in their radio plays – on any subject.

The competition is open to anyone above age 18 who resides outside Britain.

The ideal entry is a drama entry written for a radio audience that runs for not longer than 53 minutes and has a maximum of 6 characters. The competition has two categories; one of the competitions is open to those who have English as their first language and the other is for those who have English as their second language.

The winners win about £2,000 in prize money. Both winners will have the opportunity to visit London and see their plays made into a full radio production which will eventually be broadcast on the BBC World Service.

The competition opens on 1 May 2012 and closes on 31 July 2012.

Entries must be received at your British Council office or at the BBC in London by midnight GMT on 31 July 2012. Entries received after this time will not be considered.
