Armoured cars scam: Aviation stakeholders move to save Oduah

Aviation stakeholders have come in defence of the minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah over the allegation of abuse of power and financial impropriety level againat her saying that the allegations are targeted at diminishing her perfomance since assumption of office.

Princess Oduah was accused of ordering the purchase of two BMW 760 armoured cars recently worth N255, 150,000 through the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA on credit. Apart from the two armoured vehicles, NCAA and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, about four months ago were alleged to have purchased almost 800 different brands of vehicles, including Hilux Pick-Up for their top personnel and even the minister.

But in a statement, the Association of Aviation Service Consummers frowned at the allegations targeted at the minister which it said bothered on the mundane to the outright ridiculous which are aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the minister.

Cordinator of the Aviation stakeholders group Kolawole Dapo in the statement said that the minister is only being hunted by some forces which had held the aviation industry to ransome before the new regime.

He said, “It is on record that when the Aviation Minister came on board, the first thing she did was to cleanse the sector through the sanitation of the administration of concessionaire and succeeded in blocking all leakages and avenues for fraud in the sector thereby saving the Federal Government considerable resources which has since been channeled to the improvement of the aviation sector in Nigeria. “It is clear from what is put out in the press that a group of people are hell bent on discrediting the minister to get back at her for doing the right thing and not bowing to their pressure and subtleties to compromise on standard and global best practices.

“It is obvious from the context and nature of the attacks that the actual target of these naysayers is to discredit the President Goodluck Jonathan administration by taking on the shiny lights of the administration by casting aspersions on such persons and their efforts so that in the end it would appear as if the administration is not doing anything.

“You will recall that when the President brought Prof. Barth Nnaji on board to take charge of the power sector and it became clear to people that the sector was beginning to shed the garb of inefficiency it was known for and was beaming a positive image on the Jonathan administration, it was the same desperate group that sponsored all manners of atrocious allegations against the Professor, that in order to keep his hard earned reputation, the respected gentleman had to throw in the towel.
