Emir of Zaria Charges Airspace Managers on Safety in the Aviation Sector

Aviation experts in the country have been charged to strive and sustain safety in the sector. The Emir of Zaria, Alhaji Shehu Idris, who gave the charge while receiving airspace managers of the nation’s airports at his palace in Zaria, said most travellers are often ignorant of what goes on when they are airborne, urging the experts to always work assiduously to ensure safety of air travel.

He remarked that the entire nation relies on their expertise for a robust aviation industry, even as the confidence of the flying public is now gaining momentum in the sector.

The Emir further tasked the airspace managers not to shy away from demanding from the federal government appropriate technical tools that would enhance air safety management in the country.

Idris pledged to assist in whatever form to enlist the support and attention of the federal government to the yearnings and aspirations of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, (NAMA) in its quest for providing seamless air traffic services in the country.

Earlier, the Managing Director of NAMA, Nnamdi Udoh, had assured the Emir that the agency has gone through the process of re-engineering to reposition itself as one of the leading air navigation service providers in the world.

Udo, who was represented by the Director of Safety and Engineering Services, Ifeanyi Nwankwo, said the nation’s airspace is now under full radar coverage while some other safety critical projects like Aeronautic Information Service (AIS) automation, have reached advanced stages of completion.

The NAMA boss, lauded the effort of the Emir in promoting national unity and cohesion through his peace initiatives across the country, particularly in Zaria where the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) is located.
