Index drops 0.09% as investors dump shares

More investors in equities sold their holdings on the Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday, dragging the benchmark index lower.

The All Share Index lost 0.09 per cent to close at 36,056.02 points, compared to the decline of 0.28 per cent recorded the preceding day to close at 36,088.64 points.

Market capitalisation depreciated N10bn to close at N11.484trn, lower than the decrease of N32bn recorded the preceding day to close at N11.494trn.

However, some sectorial indices gained substantial value as the Lotus Islamic Index appreciated 1.33 per cent to close at 2,547.95 points, followed by the Banking Index with 0.13 per cent to close at 386.33 points.

The NSE 30-Index rose 0.05 per cent to close at 1,687.59 points, while the Industry Goods Index marginally added 0.001 per cent to close at 2,139.80 points.

The Consumer Goods Index depreciated 0.25 per cent to close at 1,006.20 points, while the Insurance Index dipped 1.71 per cent to close at 131.36 points. The Oil and Gas Index declined 1.89 per cent to close at 180.50 points, while the Alternative Securities Market remained flat.

University Press Limited led the gainers table with 34 kobo or 10 per cent to close at N3.74 per share, followed by ABC Transport Plc with seven kobo or 9.21 per cent to close at 83 kobo per share.

Vono Products Plc appreciated 14 kobo or 8.54 per cent to close at N1.78 per share, while Thomas Wayyat Plc gained eight kobo or 8.33 per cent to close at N1.04 per share. May and Baker Plc appreciated 16 kobo or 7.84 per cent to close at N2.20 per share.

On the flip side, Unity Bank Plc lost six kobo or 9.38 per cent to close at 58 kobo per share, while John Holt Plc shed 12 kobo or 9.45 per cent to close at N1.15 per share. UTC Plc fell six kobo or 9.09 per cent to close at 60 kobo per share, while Total Plc dipped N15.00 or 9.04 per cent to close at N151.00 per share.
