Trading in equities closed on bearish note on the Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday, as some speculative investors sold their holdings to take profit.
Specifically, the All Share index declined by 0.1 per cent to close at 36,224.45 points, as against the increase of 0.41 per cent recorded the preceding day to close at 36,259.66 points.
Market capitalisation shed N11.2bn to close at N11.53trn, in contrast to the rise of N46.7bn gain recorded the preceding day to close at N11.5trn.
On the sectorial indices, the Banking index shed 0.94 per cent to close at 385.45 points, followed by the NSE 30- index with 0.21 per cent to close at 1,688.95 points.
The Consumer Goods index decreased by 0.003 per cent to close at 1,011.50 points, while the Alternative Securities Market index remained unchanged.
On the other hand, the Oil and Gas index rose by 0.02 per cent to close at 188.88 points, while the Industrial Goods index increased by 0.41 per cent to close at 2,177.86 points.
The Lotus Islamic index gained 0.89 per cent to close at 2,547.61 points, while the Insurance index appreciated by 1.42 per cent to close at 138.05 points. IHS Plc led the gainers’ table with 33 kobo or 10 per cent to close at N3.63 per share, followed by Wapic Insurance Plc with nine kobo or 10 per cent to close at 99 kobo per share.
Portland Paints Plc gained 45 kobo or 9.98 per cent to close at N4.96 per share, while Jos Breweries Plc increased by 62 kobo or 9.97 per cent to close at N6.84 per share. Courtville Plc rose by six kobo or 9.09 per cent to close at 72 kobo per share.
On the flip side, Nigeria Police Microfinance Bank Plc declined by N2.84 or 9.97 per cent to close at N25.65 per share, while Multitrex Plc fell by six kobo or 9.52 per cent to close at 57 kobo per share.
International Energy Insurance Plc dipped by seven kobo or 9.46 per cent to close at 67 kobo per share, while IPWA Plc decreased by seven kobo or 7.78 per cent to close at 83 kobo per share. UAC-Property Plc lost N1.18 or 7.29 per cent to close at N15.00 per share.
