NOTAP Initiates Scheme To Foster Researchers Of Nigerian Universities

The National Office For Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), has introduced a new initiative called the NITTF scheme aimed at encouraging industry to fund and nurture highly skilled industry – driven young academic researchers for Nigerian universities.

This was disclosed by the Director General of NOTAP, Engr Umar Bindir, when he led a delegation of its members on a sensitization visit to the Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice Chancellors (CVC), Prof. Mike Faborode, in Abuja, recently.

Bindir explained that the NITTF will provide a platform where suitable and qualified Nigerians will be discovered to undertake PhD studies in Nigerian universities in different fields including engineering technology, basic and applied sciences, arts , humanities and social studies, adding that the scheme will breed researchers who understand the industry, noting that it will also produce high skilled researchers who will revolutionise the Nigerian education system.

The DG who added that the scheme will also help groom a new generation of university academia which will guarantee the quality of the nation’s education, called on the CVC to support the scheme so that it will achieve the aim.

He stated that NOTAP has also established Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices (IPTTOs) in universities and institutions of higher learning to link education with industry and promote International Property (IP), innovation and demand driven research.

Responding, Prof Faborode commended NOTAP for initiating the scheme which he said will contribute meaningfully address issues of capacity building, dearth of lecturers with PhD in the nation’s tertiary institutions and pledged support for the success of the scheme.
